Our family dentistry practice was founded in 2006, but the relationships go back further. Many of the families we see today first came to Dr. Maguire in the early 1990s, and continued with her daughter Dr. Vredenburg, the lead dentist who took over the practice. Two generations of the same Calgary dental clinic. Many of the same families: grandparents, parents, and children, often in the same week.

Calgary Fine Dentistry offers a personalized, boutique dental experience, in refreshing contrast to the rapid expansion and franchise focus of the modern dental industry. We have remained a four-chair dental clinic in Capitol Hill because we want to remain the kind of Calgary dentist who knows its patients and their families by name and sees the entire family over decades, not just visits.

Our patient-led model sits at the heart of the practice, and our family-led dental team is privileged to care for yours. Family dentist Dr. Lauren leads a team of women: three registered hygienists, two dental assistants, a practice manager, and an office administrator. One of our hygienists worked alongside Dr. Maguire decades ago, before Calgary Fine Dentistry existed.

Twenty years, built around one idea.

Calgary Fine Dentistry was founded by Dr. Jennifer Maguire, a Calgary dentist with over 25 years of experience. In May 2006, she founded the clinic where her philosophy of whole-patient care could be fully integrated.

Nine years later, her daughter, Dr. Lauren Vredenburg, joined the practice after dental school at McGill University. During the four years they practiced together prior to Dr. Maguire’s retirement, Dr. Maguire mentored Dr. Vredenburg thoroughly, drawing on her extensive experience and continuing education – particularly in the care of patients with TMD. As Dr. Maguire neared retirement, Dr. Vredenburg took over the practice and the care of many patients who had been seeing Dr. Maguire since the early 1990s.

Calgary Fine Dentistry is proud to continue the whole-patient care model it was founded on – a practice where families benefit from continuity and quality of care across generations.

Meet Dr. Lauren Vredenburg

Dr. Vredenburg attended McGill University’s Faculty of Dentistry in Montreal where she earned her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree followed by a postgraduate residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Prior to dental school, she completed a degree in kinesiology from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver. Today, this Calgary dentist leads the dental team at Calgary Fine Dentistry and is the family dentist many of our long-standing families have known for years.

This combination of training shapes how Dr. Vredenburg approaches each patient. The AEGD year extended her general-dentistry training beyond dental school, with a focus on complex restorative work and the planning that supports it. Her background in kinesiology informs her interest in how the jaw, the bite, and the surrounding muscles work together, which is why occlusion and temporomandibular joint disorder remain particular interests in her practice.

Committed to advanced continuing education, Dr. Vredenburg attends lectures throughout North America to provide her patients with thorough, comprehensive dental care across all dental services we offer – preventive cleanings, restorative treatment, cosmetic dentistry, crowns, and dental implant restoration.

A proud Calgary native, Dr. Lauren Vredenburg brings a deeply active and adventurous spirit to her dental practice. When she is not caring for patients at Calgary Fine Dentistry, she channels her passion for adventure into running marathons in Alberta and BC, completing a 100-mile cycling race, and canoeing the Mackenzie River to the Arctic Ocean. Today, she spends her well-earned downtime camping, hiking, and skiing in the Rockies with her husband and two young children.

Why our visits look different

The thinking behind the 90-minute first visit.

Diagnosis before treatment.

Each first visit begins by understanding the patient. We look at the bite, sleep, habits, and the history of work that has been done before, because the answer is rarely just the tooth in question.

Function over speed.

The bite, the joint, the muscles, and the way a patient sleeps are all connected to one another, and to the long-term oral health of every tooth. We take the time to consider the full picture, even when addressing just the tooth would be faster.

Specialists by choice, not by limitation.

We focus solely on meticulous general dentistry. For surgical implant placement, pediatric sedation (including intravenous sedation), orthodontics, and other complex procedures, we refer to specialists whose expertise in these areas exceeds what a general dentist can responsibly provide. For dental emergencies outside our scope, we direct patients to a Calgary dental clinic equipped to provide urgent care.

The dental clinic is conveniently located within a short drive for most NW Calgary residents, including families in Hounsfield Heights, West Hillhurst, Banff Trail, Mount Pleasant, and Crescent Heights.
